  • Individuals cannot improve environmental problems

    장예은

The summer has been exceptionally hot and long this year. Even after September, the temperature was over 30 degrees. The global temperature is rising every year. So people should pay attention to global warming problems and solve it. But I don't think individuals can improve environmental problems alone. I will analyze environmental problems focusing on social realism.

Why can't individuals solve environmental problems? First, it is because environmental problems are very complex. Environmental problems are related to nature and the economic and political systems. So there is a need for policies to protect the environment. However, it is difficult to change government and corporate policies only with individual efforts. Improving environmental issues requires individual, government, and corporate efforts.

Second, it is because people have educational differences about environmental issues. Even personal efforts on environmental issues will be wasted if people lack understanding of them. So working with more people will be more effective than working alone in environmental protection activities. It is necessary to narrow the gap in people's perception by conducting education on environmental issues often.

Third, environmental issues transcend national borders. One country's actions can affect another country. For example, if a factory is operated excessively in a country, wastewater or contaminated air will affect the neighboring country. Therefore, the cooperation of the international community is very necessary because environmental issues can easily affect the world.

Fourth, it is possible to effectively solve environmental problems through social solidarity. A solidarity social structure will have a lot of influence on individual behavior. For example, the actions of eco-friendly companies will lead consumers to make eco-friendly choices. In this way, structural change and community cooperation can effectively lead to individual behavioral change.

I think the actions of all social groups are important to solve environmental problems. Therefore, the environment cannot be improved by individual actions. However, if efforts to improve the individual's environment are gathered, it will have a positive effect on society as a whole. It's necessary for everyone to act responsibly on environmental issues.
