  • The "2024 Daejeon Noodle Festival" hosted by Daejeon City and organized by the Daejeon Ilbo was held around Seodaejeon

Citizens' Square in Jung-gu, Daejeon from Oct. 3rd to 5th. Under the slogan "Young people are interesting," you can see at

a glance the past of Daejeon, which boasts a long history of noodles, to the present, which leads to the trend of noodle dishes.

On the first day of the festival, the festivities were opened with a spectacular gun with fusion Gugak and classical fusion music

performances of "Ols" and "Ensemble Null."

The actor Lee Jang-woo, who appears as "Prince Palm You" in MBC's popular entertainment show "I Live Alone," appeared

to further boost the atmosphere. At Lee Jang-woo's cooking show, which will be held after the appointment ceremony,

he was able to demonstrate his cooking skills and food philosophy, drawing a lot of attention.

In addition, the "Memory Noodle Tour" was held at the Noodle Festival theme hall, where families could enjoy activities together,

such as face painting, nail art, and visiting the health playground, while recalling Ekiden Garak somen noodles that were lost

at the station in the past.

On the 5th, the last day, the 2nd Daejeon Noodle Cooking Contest, which divides the best noodle dishes, ended successfully.

The general prize of honor was won by the "Dae Son Gwan."

Dae Son Gwan introduced the so-called "Bidong," a combination of bibim wheat noodles and pork cutlet, as its main menu,

and introduced dishes that can be easily enjoyed by all men and women of all ages.

Han Jong-hyun, CEO of the Dae Son Gwan, said, "Since I am a self-employed person, I focused on providing a menu

that I don't like or dislike." I think these efforts have led to good results, he said. "I hope Noodle Daejeon will continue to be

reborn as a rich festival so that Daejeon can clear its stigma as an 'uninteresting city'."

The general award for excellence was shared by a total of two companies, "Hoo-roo-rook Dae-jeon" and "Kkeu-ang Ban."

"Hoo-roo-rook Dae-jeon is a Garak somen restaurant that reinterpreted the sensibility of Daejeon Station buckwheat noodle

restaurant in the 1980s, and was highly praised for expressing Garak somen noodles born in Daejeon with a modern taste.

In the case of Kkeu-ang Ban, Thai-style pho was served by directly managing bones, meat, and spices. The sincerity that was

so elaborate that the muscles on the bones were cut off one by one captured the taste of the citizens.

The university participating team showed even hotter competition as it was a place where many citizens could check their

skills before going to the working site.

Daedeok University's Department of Hotel Cooking and Restaurant, which won the grand prize last year, prepared

"Mature Kimchi Coco-myeon" and "Taikogi-guksu," which led to the public's response. After boiling chicken broth for more

than 8 hours, the aged kimchi coco noodles are seasoned with special seasonings of aged kimchi, and the traditional

Thai food, Pakkapa Omsap and Pattai, combined to bring out a unique flavor.

Noodle dishes with a dream of spreading Korean food around the world also attracted attention. Woosong University's

Department of Restaurant Cooking made "Sesame Leaf Jang" like Himenirajang and added it with meat so that it could inform

foreigners of sesame leaves, an ingredient that is somewhat unfamiliar to foreigners.

On the other hand, Paichai University’s Department of Food and Food Cooking actively utilized ingredients shipped from overseas.

Japanese "Yakisoba tacos" and Italian "Napolitan" create an exotic taste.

With the master chef of Woosung Information University, the three teams presented a total of six dishes: "Abalone Jangsiregi Pasta,"

"Dried Persimmon Gochujang Pasta," "Jogae Galbi Bin Noodles," "Noodle Tteokbokki," "Pork Bulgogi Stir-fried Noodles," and

    "Mabo Tofu Noodles."

The same school's restaurant cooking department served three of the most dishes in a single team. In addition to "Acorn Galbi Myeon"

and "Choriso Oil Pasta," they also provided original dishes such as "Noodle Ramen Land" made from tacos using ramen land.

Woo Sung University of Information Master Chef Joo Jung-mi and Jung Mi-jung, who won the grand prize, said, "We originally

prepared a cold dish called 'Jungbokjang bibimmyeon,' but changed the menu to warm pasta in accordance with today's chilly weather.

Choi Chang-up, chairman of the judging committee, said, "There were many dishes outside the existing frame, so my eyes and

mouth were fun," stressing, "In particular, I highly appreciate the fact that university students who learn cooking showed

creative food in a young way."

An official from Daejeon Ilbo said, "We hope this Daejeon Noodle Festival will be an opportunity to promote the taste of

Daejeon to Daejeon citizens and tourists nationwide as well as the development of Daejeon-myeon culture."
