With the year drawing to a close, Korea is going to see procession of world-class artists making their way to Seoul. From time-defying musical legends to royalty in the world of hip-hop, the lineup is nothing short of iconic. Let’s take a look at who’s coming to shred the stage.
1. Oasis
The rock band Oasis has reunited at last, bringing to a close what once seemed to be an endless feud. The Gallagher brothers made the much-awaited announcement of their reunion on August 27th, 2024, fifteen years after the band broke up.
Despite being estranged for so long, Noel and Liam continued to pursue parallel but different paths. That was until the 2020s, when their much-publicized public jabs slowly fizzled out. Fans had begun joking, half in seriousness, that a reunion might just happen someday. When that day finally arrived, fans around the world erupted in celebration.
Shortly after the reunion, Oasis confirmed both a world tour and a U.K. tour, showing that they were intent on starting anew with a bang. The news resonated especially with people in their forties who had grown up during the 1990s and who rushed to buy tickets for themselves or for their parents, uncles, and aunts as a kind of nostalgic 'act of filial piety.'
Oasis shares a very intimate connection with Korea, even more so via Noel Gallagher, the elder brother. Noel formed Noel Gallagher's High-Flying Birds following the breakup and the band has visited Korea almost every year since its formation (barring the years during the COVID-19 pandemic.) He even brought his daughter – Anaïs Gallagher, along with him, which goes a long way in reflecting his genuine affection for Korean fans.
Now, on Oct. 21, Oasis will make history again at Goyang Stadium, their first concert in Korea in sixteen years. The excitement of Korean fans is already reaching a fever pitch.
2. Travis Scott
American rapper Travis Scott will perform in Korea on October 25th at Goyang Stadium in Gyeonggi Province. It is part of his ongoing world tour, the Circus Maximus Tour where he has scheduled concerts in major cities across Asia.
Travis Scott has been a leader in worldwide hip-hop since the mid-2010s. His 2018 album Astroworld debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and garnered near-universal critical acclaim. The song Sicko Mode hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is among his most popular tracks. Scott has collaborated with A-listers such as Kanye West and Drake since then, developing a signature sound and visual style that blends rap, psychedelia, and cinematic production.
It will be Scott's second visit to Korea, following a performance on a Seoul festival stage in 2019. Renowned for his live shows filled with intense energy and a driving bass-heavy sound, Scott's live performances are always noted for their aggressive set design and mesmerizing energy. Already, the Circus Maximus Tour has featured sold-out dates in North America and Europe, and Korean fans are expecting great things.
The event is presented by Live Nation Korea, and the tickets are available on the official website. Fans can expect a setlist of songs from Scott's latest album Utopia along with hit songs from his previous albums.
Besides these artists, other world-famous stars such as female rapper Doja Cat and hit maker Alan Walker will also visit Korea this year. Many fans are eagerly waiting for their shows, and by the end of this year Korea will be a land of festivity.
